When Snowball the pet guinea pig escaped from a Cincinnati home the owners called for help. MSD workers rescued the little guy from the sewer.

Cincinnati EnquirerA Cincinnati family was worried when their guinea pig ‘Snowball’ escaped the house and scampered into the sewer system. So they did the only thing they could think that April 27 afternoon – they called Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati’s 24-hour hotline, the one people use to report sewer backups. And workers took the call seriously.Employees Jeff Greene and Reggie Gray responded and did what anyone would do when looking for a lost pet. Greene called out, “Hey buddy, come on.” And he clicked his tongue.Snowball was shaking and scared, the men reported.MSD spokeswoman Deb Leonard explained how the rescue unfolded: When the men got there Gray lowered Greene into the sewer through a manhole. Once inside, Greene could see the sewer pipes that run in and out of the manhole and spotted Snowball in the pipe that runs to the street. It was sunny out, which was a good thing, Leonard said. Because if it was raining, Snowball would have washed away into the sewer system.A basketball that belonged to a homeowner was just a little smaller than the pipe so Greene and Gray used to used it to gently nudge Snowball out and into Green’s hands. The rescue scenario was tweeted out on MSD’s official account; “Snowball escaped from his W. Price Hill home & thought a sewer was a good place to hang out. Jeff Greene & Reggie Gray came to the rescue. When Snowball wouldn’t budge from the pipe, they used a basketball to nudge him out. Now Snowball needs a bath.”A picture shows Greene, clad in a white work suit and yellow hard hat, in a harness for safety, emerging from the sewer in Cincinnati’s West Price Hill neighborhood with Snowball clutched between his hands.  Snowball escaped from his W.
