Two teachers killed, two others badly injured in Tawau accident

KOTA KINABALU: Two teachers were killed while two others are still fighting for their lives following an accident in Tawau on Wednesday (Aug 5) morning. According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, the accident occurred around 6am in front of a police station in Merotai, Tawau. The victims were believed to be heading to work at SK Umas-Umas when the driver lost control of the car, skidded off the road and crashed into a road divider before it turned turtle. Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said all four victims – Dayana Damsah, 27; Nurizyani Kafli, 24; Hasnaini Paiori, 38 (driver) and Norzairah Aladin, 35 – were thrown out of the vehicle following the crash. “The vehicle plunged six metres down a slope next to the road, ” he said in a statement here. He said two victims – Dayana and Nurizyani – died in the crash and the other two were still fighting for their lives. ACP Umbuas said the weather was good but the road was wet as it was raining earlier in the morning. The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987.
